Literacy & Lexile Levels – What Parents Need to Know

What is a Lexile Level? A Lexile level is a simple way to measure how well your child can read and understand books. It’s like a “reading thermometer”—higher numbers mean the text is more challenging. We test every student to find their current level and match them with just-right books.

Many Students Are Below Grade Level—That’s Okay! If your child’s Lexile is lower than expected, it doesn’t mean they’re behind or struggling alone. It just shows us where to give extra support. Reading skills grow with practice, just like sports or music.

How to Help at Home (Easy & Fun):

  • Read together daily – even 10 minutes makes a difference
  • Let them choose books they love (comics, magazines, anything!)
  • Ask questions about the story (“What do you think happens next?”)
  • Play word games – rhyming, spelling, or apps like Duolingo

We’re all in this together. No blame, no shame—just teamwork to help every child become a strong reader. Questions? Reach out anytime.
